Learn to create beautiful woven encaustic and fiber sculpture. Workshop is perfect for beginners and seasoned artists who have yet to work with encaustic off the panel. No previous experience with encaustic, weaving or sculpture is required. Learn about the encaustic medium, safe studio practices and how to paint fiber with encaustic.
We will explore the sculptural possibilities of utilizing traditional weaving techniques with nontraditional materials. You will learn how to create a weaving template, paint fiber, construct fiber strips and use these strips to weave an original 3-D sculpture. The workshop will include demos and provide ample studio work time. Materials used will include fiber, encaustic, wire and twine. Each participant will take home a wonderful piece of art created in this fun and informative workshop!
Most materials are provided, but participants should bring scissors for cutting cardboard and fabric; an apron, smock or work shirt; and a notebook and pencil for taking notes.
