We will explore the exciting and fun medium of marbleizing on cloth. Traditionally used on paper, marbleizing is an accessible process suitable for all levels of makers. Students will learn the cloth marbleizing process from beginning to end, and will have opportunities to explore within the process utilizing different techniques, fabric types and sizes.
We will each begin with a smaller marbling tray (appx. 12″ x 12″ ) to learn the basic techniques of traditional marbling and allow for further personal experimentation. Once comfortable with this size, we will work larger on silk scarves (24″ – 36″ square) and/or larger pieces of cloth, depending on each student’s preference. Finished marbled cloth may be complete as is, or can be used in other works, such as quilts, book/journal covers, collage, or for digital uploading to fabric printing sites like Spoonflower.
Most supplies will be included, and resources for purchasing supplies for future use will be provided.
